Although they hold a northernly position, enduring bad and harsh winter weather, residents of the city of Toledo are no strangers to the summer heat. With a recent record breaking high of 99 degrees set just weeks ago, in May, the city braces itself for what many believe will be yet another unsympathetic streak of heat. To help the community carry on against the summer blaze, the city of Toledo operates an array of multiple public pools for people to enjoy. One such pool, located on 910 Dorr St near Lawrence Ave, is Roosevelt Pool.
In a collaboration of donation efforts by local businesses and organizations such as GLG Construction, and The Toledo Journal, it has been made possible for the first 1000 child swimmers to the Roosevelt Pool to be able to enjoy the facilities free of charge.
“We just wanted the kids to have something to do this summer” said Gail Gant, of GLG Construction.
Summer youth find themselves without school and often times without work, resulting in boredom and restlessness in the greater portions of their days. With the community coming togethe,r in an effort to combat these feelings and to promote activity and energy, the children of the city’s neighborhoods will have lesser worry about finding a place to cool off that’s fun and inviting.
Friday morning, check donations from some of the organizations above were presented to the Department of Public Service Division of Parks, Recreation and Forestry, the operators of Toledo’s pools. The funds were greatly accepted and taken with proud enthusiasm.
Roosevelt Pool opens for the summer season on June 16, and is closed on Mondays. It operates and welcomes swimmers during the day hours of noon to 6 pm.
